Abû 'Abdillâh Dja'far ben Muhammad as-Sâdiq, son of Imam Muhammad al-Bâqir, son of Zayn Al-'Abidîn, son of al-Hussein, son of' Ali Ibn Abî Tâlib, Dja'far is born in Medina on the eighth day of Ramadan in AD 83 H. His mother was the daughter of al-Qâssim, whose grandfather was Abu Bakr as-Siddiq.
Dja'far is the 6th revered Imam of the Twelver Shiites and the 5th of the Ismailis. However, for all Sunni Muslims, he was a pious man versed in hadith and fiqh. He lived apart from all the insurrections of the 'Alides which had arisen in his time. He had gained great fame through the wisdom-filled teachings he imparted. During the Abbasid revolution, Dja'far as-Sâdiq would have remained indifferent. He is the presumed founder of the Shiite Muslim law school known as “al-madhhab al-dja'farî. "
The present film emphasizes the pacifism of Dja'far as-Sâdiq as well as his great erudition which has earned him the esteem of all the great ulemas of his time and at their head Abû Hanîfa.
During his life, he saw the last five Umayyads and the seizure of power by the Abbasids. He died during the reign of the second Abbasid al-Mansûr. Dja'far as-Sâdiq died at the age of 63 and is buried in Medina at the cemetery of al-Baqî '.
