The film Imam Moslim retraces the life of this great Muslim scholar who was the student of Al Boukhârî.

Abu al Hussayn Mouslim ibn al Hajjàj ibn Mouslim ibn Ward an Naysàbùri was from an Arab tribe from which his family name is derived: Al Quchayri. As for An Naysàbùri, it is derived from the name of his country of stay, Nichapour, a large city in Khorassan. His date of birth, uncertain, is around 204 or 206 AH.

The environment in which he was raised made it easier for him to learn useful science. Indeed, Nichapour was a country animated by the sciences of Islamic law. There were many teachers and students there. His father was among those interested in science and it was probably he who encouraged him in this path. From the age of 12 (or 14) he participated in Hadith sessions. Two years later, on the occasion of his pilgrimage (he was still a hairless boy), he met the scholars of Mecca as well as other scholars while he was on the journey. He undertook many trips (around Khorassan, in Iraq, in Hidjaz, in the Sham, in Egypt ...) in search of Hadith because of the dispersion of the transmitters.

He had placed the science of Hadith at the top of his concerns, which consists in knowing the contexts of the Hadith, its chains of transmitters, its statements ... in order to preserve them and distinguish the authentic from the weak.

His collection SAHIH MOUSLIM is considered by the entire Muslim nation to be the second source in Sunni authority after SAHIH AL BOUKHARI. The development of this work lasted 15 years during which Imam Muslim never ceased to rework and correct it. He will say about it: 'I have exhibited this repertoire of 300,000 traditions heard'. And he will add: 'I have not inserted anything in this collection without argument and I have not excluded anything without argument'. He knew the names, nicknames, surnames, genealogy, history, and deaths of the transmitters of the Hadith, like an insightful auditor. He criticized or praised them in order to distinguish the trustworthy from the mediocre. He is also counted among the pioneers of the science of the faulty Hadith which is the most subtle and arduous science. He was trustworthy and renowned for his great memory. He cited the names of his teachers in his books. Ad Dhahabi counted 220, but in reality the list is much longer.

He followed the teachings of Imam al Bukhari whom he accompanied everywhere for a long time. Ad Daraqutni says: 'Without al Bukhari, Muslim would not have been able to do anything'.

Despite this, he indirectly criticized the working method of his teachers: al Bukhari and al Madini, for which he received many criticisms from scholars. This is probably why he did not report according to al Madini. He did not report either according to al Bukhari and Ad Dhuhli for the sake of remaining neutral in the affair between these two professors: Muhammad ibn Yahyia Ad Dhuhli claimed that al Bukhari said that the Koran was a creation. Al Bukhari, innocent of any accusation, said rather that the Koran was the word of Allah, the Most High, not created. However, Ad Dhuhli had forbidden his students to attend al Bukhari, until the latter left Nishapour. During this ordeal, everyone broke ties with al Bukhari, except for Muslim who made common cause with him. In a teaching session ad Dhuhli made a remark about al Bukhari, Muslim got up and left, after which, Muslim gathered all that he had written according to him and sent him back to his home. . He took care of disseminating his knowledge throughout the world through his language and his pen. He was also one of the first to keep the traditions in book, which was quite rare at the time. Among his works, some have been preserved, others have been lost. But most of it dealt with the domain of Hadith.

Muslim, May Allah have mercy on him, died on Sunday evening in the month of Rajab in the year 261 AH in the land of Nishapur. He was 50 and a few years old. Let us pray that Allah will grant him His mercy and satisfaction.
